Studio 2

This course, compared to the previous studio, emphasized more practical based on an actual site at the corners of Dowling Street, Reid Ave and McElhone Street in the inner-city suburb of Woolloomooloo. It is with the designed client TAFE to offer the site nearby an art institute. The site was used during the whole semester and see how it was developed. Mainly, it consisted of three projects of distinct functions - a public space, a cafe, and an art gallery. The weekly tutorial and some internal submissions really helped lead the project in the right direction.

My projects had changed a lot from the first two submissions.

My first idea was to create an upper light structure of platforms to create access throughout the site. Yet considered the undesirable space underneath the structure, like the access to natural lighting. Then I turned to another plan that plays with the ground plane more.

The above are the first three submissions for the process. The final submission refined the presentation boards and I reduced the element of my gallery group to provide more public space so as to maintain more balance of positive and negative space.
