In assignment 1, we used BIM system for making a building model from the terrain. The objects we modelled got their own properties, for example, the material use, area and volume. We can make use of the components that contain data, for example, the materials and standard dimensions of wall and floor. The objects are changed by adjusting its properties and relationships. Afterwards, the linked drawings come with the model help us produce accurate drawings. After the proper modelling, the analysis can be carried out.
In assignment 2, we use the data in our model for conducting the analysis. We had the opportunity to work on three types of building analysis- environment, cost and the checking of building code. The analysis is particularly useful in the conceptual design stage. The interoperability of BIM system towards other analytical software is demonstrated.
In assignment 3, we used Revit to conduct documentation, for example, the dimensioning can detect the intersecting wall junction and wall openings to generate interrelated dimensions. For the drawing of the detailed wall section, we can use the inbuilt detail components to put in our drawings. As the section is generated from the model, it just depends on where do we put the section cut mark.
In summary, BIM is a useful design process that store and process building information. It is an object-oriented information system that makes use of the object relationship to process results. It allows cross disciplinary work that other software is compatible with. The software we learnt- Revit can export the file into various formats to the other software and even having plugins that work within the software. I like to use Revit as the related values will be changed together that reduces the workload and errors. It also improves the accuracy when it comes to some standard modelling. The components can be customised and stored for future uses as well. The layers can be edited to produce unlimited results while design and analysis.
